The gospel should naturally bring about growth not just within ourselves, our families and our churches but within the world. Once again, Colossians 1:5-6 says Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.
Furthermore, this growth in the world is take place both near and far. In Acts 1:8 Jesus says “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. “
We believe that God has called all believers to be soul-winners and fishers of men, not just apostles, evangelists and pastors. 1 Peter 3:15 says that we should always be prepared “to make a defense to anyone who asks you for the hope that it in you.” Proverbs 11:30 says “whoever captures souls is wise.” So when we go out from being gathered we are going out with a purpose to share the gospel through personal evangelism on the street, in the marketplace, in the workplace and in our neighbourhoods. We encourage our members firstly, to be ready to share their own story and experience of God, secondly to know and share the gospel, and then thirdly, to make use of resources, such as tracts, sermon series invitations, invitations to Christianity Explored etc.
Free Resources available at NWCC:
- Pastor Paul’s sermons “Tell Stories Like Paul” (Acts 26:1-32), and “Confidence in Speaking the Gospel” (Acts 18:9-10),
- The gospel presentation shown in “Two Ways to Live” and “Who Will Be King?” (both in the tract display),
- Invitations to church and many other tracts.
- The DVD series and accompanying booklets on sharing the gospel from Matthias Media is also available for small group use.
We also believe that as Christians, we should be spending time in our community, deliberately forging relationships with neighbours or in community groups so that we have opportunities to do good to those around us, to know them and to gain a hearing for the gospel.
Free Resources available at NWCC include: Pastor Paul’s sermon “A Missionary Meal” (Mark 2:13-17)
Although not every believer is called to go to the foreign mission field, we do believe every believer ought to support the cause of missions throughout the world in some way. In the New Testament we see a regular pattern of churches helping evangelists and apostles on their way in their evangelistic work. (Tit 3:13)
One of the ways we do this is that as a church we give a significant amount of our money to missionaries at work throughout the world- most of whom we have personal and ongoing connection with. So when you set aside part of your income and give to the church, you are supporting work not just locally but abroad as well. However, we also encourage our members to give and pray beyond their regular support for their church. A good way to do this is to find a country or missions organization or missionary to support. Pray for them. Support them financially. What you will find is that your heart will be drawn towards what you are giving towards and praying about and that your passion for sharing the gospel locally will grow as well.
