Preaching Lab III & IV

Our theme Simplicity & Power is drawn from 1 Cor 1:17-18, “For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

Preaching is hard but it is not complex. Learn a simple Triadic method for gospel proclamation that will keep you fresh, relying on the Spirit, and bring about the fruitfulness God has promised.

Exegetical Process

How do you move from your initial thoughts and outline to test, deepen, and develop your study towards a sermon? We will consider an exegetical process that take into account the context at five levels: canon, book, paragraph, sentence, and words.

Questioning the Text

Each passage and its context is unique. We will investigate how to know the right questions to ask of our text to be able to understand, explain, and apply the Word.

Group Process

We will work through our Exegetical, Question-Asking, and Applicational procedures as a group to model the process.

Individual Process

Each participant will step through the process themselves with an example text. Help and guidance will be available in your process.
