You’re invited to join Dr. Marty Culy for an eight-week study of 1 John. Since this will be an online course, you are free to start the course at any time and study at your own pace. This means you can take eight weeks or eight months to complete the course. You can start the course next week or next year; it’s up to you.
The course will once again make use of recorded Powerpoint lectures, which you can follow in either video or audio format. Each session is 60-80 minutes and will include one or more places where you can pause and come back to the session on another day (though you can really pause the recording at any time you like). The Student Notes will include all of the material in the Powerpoint slides. You will also have access to Reflection and Response questions for each session that will help you to wrestle with how 1 John should impact your life. All of the course materials will be available on the course website. When you register for the course, an invitation to access the course website will be sent to you. Each person who wants to take the course needs to register individually.
The first session will be available on May 3 and subsequent sessions will be posted by Monday evening each week after that. We encourage you to find one or more others who would like to study 1 John with you. If you are part of a small group, you will find discussing the questions raised in the lectures and the Reflection and Response questions that go with each session will give you plenty to talk about and pray about together. If you are doing the course on your own, simply take time to pause and think about each question that is raised in class before going on.
Two Zoom discussion meetings are planned for this course for those taking the course in May and June of 2021. The Zoom meetings will likely be held on May 28 and June 25 and will give us an opportunity to discuss passages that are still unclear to you and to share with one another how God’s Word is impacting our lives. All registered students will be sent a Zoom link prior to the two scheduled meetings.
There will be no formal written assignments, but you will be encouraged to prepare for class each week by reading the passage in advance. Suggested pre-reading: 1 John 1 before Session #1.
The cost for the course is just $75 per person, which includes all of the course materials. The registration fees help us to continue developing the Ignitus Bible Curriculum and future courses.
